How unfairness at work can lead to sabotage
Many of us think that our workplaces are not fair. Managers favor some employees over others, or give some people credit that’s due to someone else. Chicago Booth’s Lucia Annunzio warns that that can lead to resentment and even acts of sabotage. So how important is fairness, and how can you create an environment where people respect and understand decisions, even if they don’t like or agree with them?

Why is US healthcare so expensive?
Просмотров 11116 часов назад
Nearly 20 percent of Americans have medical debt. A hospital stay in the US on average leads to about $6,000 in unpaid medical bills for the uninsured, and more than $18,000 for about one in ten uninsured patients. Why is US healthcare so expensive? In this episode, we hear from Chicago Booth’s Matt Notowidigdo, in the first of two podcasts about his new book, Better Health Economics: An Introd...
Giving Students a Choice Can Make Schools Better
Просмотров 182День назад
chicagobooth.edu/review | As the prevalence of school-choice programs across the country has grown, so has the importance of understanding their impact on student outcomes. Do such systems help reduce educational inequality, or exacerbate it? Chicago Booth’s Christopher Campos analyzed Los Angeles’ Zones of Choice program and finds that in that case, school choice helped close the performance g...
Is money or marriage the key to happiness?
Просмотров 15714 дней назад
If you are married, you are statistically much more likely to report being happy than if you’re unmarried. In fact, Chicago Booth’s Sam Peltzman notes that the difference in terms of happiness is the same as either being in the top 10 percent of earners, or the bottom 10 percent. Having said that, his research also shows that the richer you are, the happier you are. In this episode, we talk wit...

Why AI might not make you more productive
Просмотров 20228 дней назад
AI promises to make us all be more productive, so what role does old-fashioned management play? Chicago Booth’s Chad Syverson says management still matters, and even the best technology won’t necessarily improve productivity if the right managers aren’t in place. But what does good management even mean in the age of hybrid work and remote teams?
Raghuram Rajan: your doctor could be in India

The market for services is global, and many of us are used to having our issues fielded by someone in India. For decades, big companies in the US and Europe have set up global capability centers in India to handle back-office operations. In this episode, we hear from Chicago Booth’s Raghuram Rajan, who sees the future of India’s economy as moving from the back office to the front-of-house. This...

Просмотров 255Месяц назад
New York Times columnist David Brooks’ latest book, How to Know a Person is about our ability to know others, and to make them feel valued and understood. In this episode, Brooks talks to Chicago Booth’s Nick Epley about how seemingly small, everyday interactions can significantly shape our lives. Their conversation was part of the Think Better series, organized by Chicago Booth’s Roman Family ...
How to fix a toxic working culture
Просмотров 243Месяц назад
Most US companies have a toxic culture, according to Lucia Annunzio, Adjunct Associate Professor of Executive Education at Chicago Booth. The hallmarks are a lack of transparency, short-termism, and top-down leadership. As a result, employees feel micromanaged, stressed, and disengaged. So what can managers do to stop the toxicity and create a healthy work culture?

One minute he says manufacturing is the way, and the next he says services is the future for India, as well as Africa. Do economists these days play to the crowd in the audience, or maybe they are playing politics, and geopolitics as well? I believe they are! And so is the media as the money trail says it best.

I don't see how markets can efficient all the time, since every trader has a different opinion on direction, so projections vary according to your analysis and professionalism! Fair value gaps are points thought of to be inefficiency, so a return of price needs to occur to service large orders that have not yet been completely filled in order to gain such efficiency! If the markets were fully liquid then efficiency is the aim that is still but never achieved because of time lags. These days time lags become less and less with better technology, so they may be more efficient than earlier times, but then you have to account for differing markets and differing liquidity according to how well traded the market is and this varies across a very wide board! Thus "Are Markets Efficient" is not a good question! A better question would be "Are there any markets that are efficient?" Likely not! Another question would be "Are the markets efficient enough for the Banks to profit?" Clearly the answer is Yes!

More than anything what is driving people away from religion is that while religious institutions talk a good game their actions belie them. Christianity is the dominant religion in the US but displays almost none of the tenants it espouses. I don't see many Christian's selling everything they have and giving the money to the poor. I do see them engaging in church building campaigns and meddling in politics that they should, theologically, care less about. It is therefore the lives of the masses of religious people that sets no particular example that others want to follow. Often it is the most religious that are the worst life examples. There are a few notable exceptions. My grandmother always said that she "would rather SEE a sermon than HEAR one". There is a major deficit of seeing religious people actually running their lives the ACTUAL way their religion tells them too. It is this obvious hypocrisy that is at the root of the crumbling of religion. Sadly, religious people are often not even aware of the true basic tenets of their faith and what they demand. They often go about thinking they are living their lives accordingly but would be shocked badly if their lives were compared to the ACTUAL teachings of their religion.

It’s a multitude of “problems” on why religion is fading, not just one reason. Things such as science and knowledge, individuality, culture, hypocrisy, sensitive topics such as politics, LGBT, incest, sexual liberation, etc. For example: religion is low here in the US because it’s a land of “freedom in expression” which will eventually clash with religious obedience vs freedom of will and expression.

That last bit, AI systems and god having similar features. Being in multiple places at once, exceeding human capabilities, this part struck me. These traits are what ancient aliens had, they came to earth, being all this, and helped and influenced and changed things and people of the earth. And then left. Leaving the people worshipping them, wanting more and waiting for their return from the sky. The beginning of religion. Perhaps understanding AI fills in some blanks for some people maybe without them realizing it. On the other hand, the part where it says doctors or those in the medical fields tended to hold to hold firm in their religious beliefs perhaps that is because they are exposed regularly to things happening that seem to exceed human capabilities. Miracle healings and such. Keeping them close to the sense of something bigger out there. Just a thought.

I think it’s actually making people more religious but not a theistic religion, it’s purely ideological. Modern humans have replaced God and Religion with Ideology and are just as zealous and dogmatic about it. They have heresies, blasphemies, apostates, covenants, and commandments, ideology is their religion. Hell, even atheism has warped and contorted into a religion of Scientism with atheists be just as dogmatic as devote Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, the whole shabang. Of course no atheist will ever admit it due to arrogance, pride and ego but it’s the truth. Where AI comes in, as it exists and is utilized today, is with curation of content and algorithmic ideological echo chambers. Showing them content that further solidifies their dogmatic worldviews while also fanning the flames of fear and division between people with separate conflicting and clashing ideological views and with just as much conviction as any devote member of any theistic religion. Once AI gets to the point where they’re able to connect an AI to quantum computing and the BlockChain, which they absolutely are trying to do, you’d be hard pressed to deny you’re in the presence of a Machine God. With how humans are as a species there absolutely will be a religion formed to Worship such a “Being”. Look up D-Wave Quantum Computers and how they talk Quantum Computing and AI, and what they’re Computers are capable of. They literally describe being in the presence of their computers as being at the Alter of a Lovecraftian Computer God and how the sound of the computer when it’s on almost sounds like a heartbeat. No joke, look up D-Wave Systems Geordie Rose. I’d post a like but RUclips always hides/deletes my comments when I do.

Science and being exposed to various cultures and information is the downfall of religion. Religion is basically just passed on from one’s family and community. People that find religion are just going back to whatever they were introduced to growing up. There isn’t one way to logically pick one religion over the other so people use faith in what they “know”
